About

The Gesture is a free online tool for artists who want to practice gesture drawing. No login, no setup — pick a subject, set a timer, and draw.

Why I built this

I built The Gesture because finding good, varied reference images for timed practice sessions was always frustrating. Most tools either had limited subjects, low-quality images, or made you sign up before you could do anything useful.

The goal here is simple: remove every barrier between you and your next drawing session. The images are sourced from Unsplash and Pexels — real photographers, real subjects, high quality — and the tool works on any device, in any browser.

How it works

1. Pick a subject

Human figure, animals, faces, hands and feet, environments, and more.

2. Set your timer

From 30 seconds to 30 minutes. Short timers push you to capture the gesture, not the details.

3. Draw

Images advance automatically. Use the keyboard shortcuts to skip, pause, or go back.

What's coming

Playlist mode, more subjects, and more curated image collections are all in the works. The tool is actively developed and completely free — support it if you can, share it if you like it.
